Populus Terra :: Index

I think this thread is somewhere else, but I can't find it.

Anyway, I was reading one of Daniel Quinn's books, and I got to thinking about our name, Populus Terra. It means, "Our Land," correct?

Well, my thought was that, in the spirit of starting anew, separate from current society, is it truly our land? Or is labeling it our land actually incorrect, and we are simply one of many animals inhabiting the land, just as the mice, gophers, dee ...

Long story short, I just watched the movie Accepted (again. What a great movie). It got me thinking that we may eventually want to do start something similar, both for higher education and possibly for secondary education or even earlier.

We've had a lot of good discussion but I thing it's time we start wraping some things up. This seemed easiest to do for the electronics section. Maybe in time we can wrap up other issues. So here's what I want to do.

Stage1: Determine what electronics we need/want for 30 people.
Stage2: Determine how much electricity these would require.
Stage3: Determine how many wind generators this would require.
Stage4: Gather the materials for that many generators. ...

I'd like to amend this thread as YES WE CAN! But we probably shouldn't.

As I've discussed in another thread if we want to be truly sustainable we have to prevent erosion and this means planting more scarcely and rotating crops.

Also we seem in a agreement that we don't want to live with 60 people.

The difference in most cases is that the fish wasn't raise to be eaten it was caught while roaming free.

There are a variety of types of vegetarians, vov. They can't be clumped together into one group and their reasons for being vegetarian vary wildly too.

Are you going to do anything with the wiki? it's still mostly blank.

We should build the houses so their connected or at least so there in groups of 4 or something. It would save money on construction material, make them easier to build, and save heat.

Thanks to my wonderful environmental science teacher I've learned the evils of modern farming practices. Apparently, the world will exhaust all of it's topsoil in the next century if modern farming practices continue. That's why I've been looking into methods of erosion prevention. Fortunately we're looking at about 30 members. 30 people could be sustained of of 2 acres of dense destructive farming. But now I know better.

What I propose is 8 acres of garden. And ...

I live lereveurs idea as well. As I think I've explained several time before I want to use this forum to help organize other communes as well. That's why I named it commune.myfreeforum.org rather than being specific to ours.
